Roderic Meyrick was born on 20 January 1898, second son of Edward Meyrick, F.R.S., an Assistant Master at Marlborough, 1887-1914. He was educated at Eagle House, Sandhurst and at Marlborough College, 1911-16, being awarded a Classical Scholarship to Emmanuel College, Cambridge. In 1916 he was commissioned into the 7th Battalion Wiltshire Regiment and served in Salonika and France, where he was wounded. Going to Cambridge after the war he switched to modern languages, taking an Honours Degree in 1921. Entering the teaching profession, he was an Assistant Master at Banstead Hall, 1921-24, and at Wellesley House, Broadstairs, 1924-28, before taking over as headmaster at Corchester in 1928. During the Second World War he commanded a company in the Hexham Battalion Home Guard. He was a Magistrate on the Hexham Bench and held the Long Service Decoration and Medal of Merit for services to the Boy Scout Movement. With copied research.
