Jason Ernest Hood joined the Coldstream Guards on 24 January 1989. Qualified for the G.S.M. with Northern Ireland clasp in 1991. In 1993 he went with his unit to Yugoslavia for service with UNPROFOR. On 23 December 1993 Hood and three other members of the battalion were escorting an aid convoy of the Edinburgh Direct Aid Organisation when it was attacked and its members abducted at gunpoint by members of the B.I.H. (Muslim irregulars) in retaliation for one of their ambulance drivers who had been captured by the Croats. Their eventual release was negotiated by Lieutenant-Colonel Peter Williams, C.O. of the 1st Battalion Coldstream Guards. Hood qualified for the N.A.T.O. Medal for Kosovo in September 1999 and the Air Operations Iraq clasp in June 2004. Hood left the Army on 16 March 2011.
