William James Caple was born in Bridgewater and enlisted at Aberdare. Serving in the 1st Battalion Grenadier Guards he entered the France/Flanders theatre of war on 16 March 1915. He was killed in action, 17 October 1915 (ref. C.W.G.C.) (’Soldiers Died’ gives the date as 7 October 1915). Having no known grave, his name is commemorated on the Loos Memorial, France.
