Nine: attributed to Lieutenant J. Roszek, 2rd Polish Corps

1939-45 Star; Africa Star; Italy Star; Defence and War Medals; Poland, Cross of Merit, 1st Class without swords, enamelled, modern production; Cross of Merit, 2nd Class with swords, enamelled; Monte Cassino Cross 1944, reverse numbered ‘46 016’; Army Active Service Medal, good very fine and better (9) £100-140

Jan Stanisław Roszek was born in Zakopane on 5 June 1896. During the Great War he served in Piłsudski’s 1st Brigade. In 1926 he graduated from Lwów University. Between the wars he was listed as a Reserve Second Lieutenant in the 40th Infantry. In the Second World War he was awarded the Monte Cassino Cross as Lieutenant and Doctor in the Ordnance H.Q. of the 2nd Polish Corps. For his war services he was awarded the Cross of Merit 2nd Class with swords. For some post war services of a civil nature he was awarded the Cross of Merit 1st Class. He is believed to have died in Greater London in 1972. Decorations not confirmed.

With card forwarding box for his British medals, addressed to ‘Mr Roszek I.S., 9 Hoveden Rd, London, N.W.2’. Plus two sample strikings of the Monte Cassino Cross.
