Edward Walker, a former Warehouseman, enlisted at London on 17 September 1895. With the 9th Lancers he served in South Africa, August 1896-April 1898; India, April 1898-October 1899 and South Africa, October 1899-July 1900. Private Edward Walker, 9th Lancers was discharged at Netly on 21 August 1900 being found medically unfit - suffering from valvular disease of the heart. Having suffered rheumatism in March 1900 following the severe exposure during the march in the relief of Kimberley, he went into Kimberley Hospital, transferring to Bloemfontein Hospital where his more serious condition was discovered. He was pensioned on his discharge from the army. Latterly employed as a Nursery Gardener, he died in Gosport on 24 October 1949.
