Andrew Anderson was born in St. Andrews, Fife. A Labourer by occupation, he attested for the Hussars of the Line at Dundee on 14 February 1896, aged 18 years, 1 month. Posted to the 10th Hussars he served in South Africa, November 1899-May 1903. He transferred to the Army Reserve in May 1903, being discharged in February 1908.
