George Wright was born in Dover, Kent. A Groom by occupation, he attested for the Royal Artillery at Chatham on 16 January 1891, aged 18 years, 7 months. He served at Home with the R.F.A. until transferred to the Army Reserve in January 1898. Recalled in October 1899, he served with the 73rd Battery in South Africa, November 1899-August 1900. Transferred once more to the Army Reserve in April 1902. With copied service papers and roll extract.
