Joseph Hibbert was born in Gloucester. A Groom by occupation and a member of the 3rd Battalion Gloucestershire Regiment (Militia), he attested for the Army Service Corps at Bristol on 25 July 1889, aged 19 years. Serving at Home until November 1899, his records show he suffered a wound to his left wrist on 27 November 1892. Hibbert served throughout the Boer War; a note on the roll indicates some service with the 82nd Battery R.F.A. He was discharged from the Army on 24 July 1902. With copied service papers and roll extracts. Also awarded the King’s medal with two clasps.
