Peter McCall landed on ‘W’ Beach, Gallipoli, on 29 April 1915, and was killed in action on 4 June during a costly attack at Twelve Tree Copse, on which occasion the men of the 1st Battalion, King’s Own Scottish Borderers, ‘cheered and fixed bayonets’ before the ‘leading waves were soon enfiladed by fire, the majority of men being killed close to parapet’ (British Regiments at Gallipoli, by Ray Westlake, refers). The son of Alexander and Catherine McCall of Maxton, St. Boswells, Roxburghshire, he was 34 years old and is commemorated on the Helles Memorial.

The son of Thomas and Grace Clapham of Main Street, Pannal, Harrogate, Yorkshire, he was 26 years of age and is buried in Bellicourt British Cemetery.

Ralph Swindon Lewis appears to have enlisted under age in the Army Service Corps as ‘Raymond Lewis’ towards the end of 1915, but was discharged in May 1916, aged 16 years and four months. Enlisting in the Royal Artillery on coming of age, he served in France from April to October 1918, in which latter month he sustained a broken jaw owing to being kicked by a horse. He was invalided home; sold with copied service and pension records.
