A mounted group of five miniature dress medals attributed to Instructor Captain Guy Varley Rayment, C.B.E., Royal Navy

The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire, C.B.E. (Military) Commander’s 1st type badge, gold and enamel, stamped ‘18ct.’ on reverse; British War Medal 1914-20, silver; Thailand, Order of the White Elephant, silver-gilt and enamel; China, Order of the Striped Tiger, silver-gilt and enamel; Japan, Order of the Sacred Treasure, 4th Class, silver-gilt and enamel, mounted as worn, in Spink, London leather case, slight enamel damage, very fine and better, rare grouping (5) £250-300

Guy Varley Rayment was born on 27 January 1878 and gained a B.A. from Trinity College, Cambridge. He entered the Royal Navy in 1901 as a Naval Instructor. He served at the R.N. College, Greenwich, 1901-04 and in March 1907 he qualified as an Interpreter in Japanese. Posted to H.M.S. Kent on the China Station in 1912. Throughout the Great War Rayment served in the Naval Intelligence Division, mostly in the Far East. He was ranked as Instructor Commander in June 1915. In 1923 he was appointed Instructor, Naval Intelligence, West Indies Station. In April 1926 he was appointed to the battleship H.M.S. Revenge. On promotion to Instructor Captain in July 1927 he took up the post of Fleet Education Officer, Mediterranean Fleet, 1927-31. Afterwards he held the post of Professor of Navigation at the Royal Naval College, Greenwich until his retirement in 1933. Awarded the C.B.E. in 1912; awarded the White Elephant and Striped Tiger in 1919 and the Sacred Treasure in 1920. With some copied research.
