Victoria Cross, bronze; Military Cross, G.VI.R. (sic), 1st issue, base silver metal; 1914-15 Star; British War Medal 1914-20, silver; Victory Medal 1914-19, bronze, mounted for wear; with a copy Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders bonnet & glengarry badge, cast white metal, the miniatures and badge contained in a fitted leather case, the inside bearing a silver label inscribed, ‘Capt. J. A. Liddell, V.C., M.C., R.F.C.’, good very fine (6) £100-150

Awarded the V.C. when flying reconnaissance over Ostend-Bruges-Ghent on 31 July 1915. Being severely wounded and for a time unconscious, he managed to get his damaged machine (and his observer) back to the Allied Lines and safety. Captain Liddell died on 31 August 1915.
