M.C. London Gazette 28 June 1945. The original recommendation states:
‘This V.C.O. has done work of outstanding merit throughout the recent campaign in Burma. He has performed his duties zealously and efficiently. His devotion to duty and dogged determination to take through his support and ammunition columns in spite of heavy enemy fire has been an inspiration to the whole company. He is an excellent example of everything a good V.C.O. should be.
On one occasion while in command of the adm. area of 4-15 Punjab Regiment, he personally killed the three leading Japs of an attacking party some 35 strong and inspired his men that they drove off the Japs who left much equipment and their dead behind.’
Gul Hussain, who was from Natha Gala in Poonch State in the Punjab, enlisted in the Indian Army in March 1928. Witnessing active service as a member of an ammunition transport column, R.I.A.S.C., in the Waziristan operations in April to December 1937 (Medal & clasp), he was also mentioned in despatches in respect of his subsequent services in the Burma campaign - accompanying copied entry refers.
Sold with the recipient’s original warrant of appointment to Jemadar, dated 31 August 1943, together with copied I.A. certificate of service.
