Dr Peter Arthur Wolken was awarded the Officer’s Cross of the German Federal Republic Order of Merit by President Karl Carstens on 22 August 1979. The presentation took place in the Ambassador’s Residence in London on 13 December 1979. Dr Wolken, a former German citizen, received the award in recognition of services rendered to the Federal Republic. As a medical doctor, he had provided medical services and advice to the German Embassy and its staff.
Arthur Wolken (329103) had been appointed a Lieutenant in the R.A.M.C. in August 1944 (London Gazette 13 October 1944). Served in the North Africa Sector. Ranked as a War Substantive Captain from August 1945; released from the service in 1948. Latterly living at 11 Dundee House, 145 Maida Vale, London, W9, he died on 2 February 1993.
With original ‘Buckingham Palace’ notification granting Dr. Arthur Peter Wolken ‘permission to wear’ the ‘insignia of The Cross of an Officer of The Order of Merit’, dated 7 February 1980; together with copied research.
