Private First Class Henry J. De Filippo, 306th Infantry Regiment, 77th Infantry Division, died of wounds suffered during the recapture of Guam, 6 August 1944.
With a number of letters and cards of condolence addressed to (his sister) Mrs Rose Viale, 116 Laural Street, Lee, Massachusetts - from the Secretary of War Henry Stimson; the Chief of Staff, General Marshall; Leverett Saltonstall, Governor of the Commonwealth of Massachusets; Catholic Chaplain The Rev. Charles J. Heaney - a handwritten postscript states that he gave her brother absolution and administered the Last Rites; Captain William H. McKeown, C.O., 306th Infantry - these complete with envelopes; slip to accompany a U.S. flag (used at his burial); a photograph of his grave marker; three other related photographs; nine ‘sympathy’ cards - all contained in a folder. With a riband bar for display purposes.
