Joseph Blake was born in West Stanley and enlisted at West Hartlepool. Serving in the 15th Battalion Durham Light Infantry and a recipient of the M.M., he was killed in action on 10 April 1917. He was buried in the Cojeul British Cemetery, St. Martin-sur-Cojeul. He was the stepson of John Edward Blake and son of Mary Hannah Blake, of Bearpark, Co. Durham.
