A rare Korea operations D.F.M. group of eight awarded to Master Navigator K. Jameson, Royal Air Force, who completed a tour of operations in Sunderlands of No. 209 Squadron, a Long Range Maritime Reconnaissance unit

D.F.M. London Gazette 23 February 1954:

‘In recognition of gallant and distinguished services in Korea.’

The original recommendation states:

‘Flight Sergeant Jameson, as Navigator (Long Range Maritime Reconnaissance), has completed 30 sorties in the Korean Theatre during a period of 15 months. He has maintained the highest navigational standards and has exhibited the greatest skill and devotion to duty in all his tasks. This senior N.C.O. has shown outstanding courage, confidence and ability in conditions where the slightest error would have been disastrous for aircraft and crew. The patient care with which he has instructed the inexperienced navigators has made an outstanding contribution to the efficiency of the crew and to the Squadron as a whole. He has been an example to other crews by his efficiency, devotion to duty and determination on operational tasks.’

Kenneth Jameson’s operational flying time in the above cited period amounted to 235 hours, during which period 209 Squadron was a component of the Far East Flying Boat Wing at Seletar, but for the purpose of carrying out patrols off Korea a detachment was established at Iwakuni in southern Japan.
