Auction Catalogue
Victoria (1837-1901), Proof Maundy set, 1839, 12h (ESC 2449; S 3916). Almost as struck, matching dark tone £400-500
Although the coins have the appearance of proofs, neither Rayner in ESC or Hailstone, who is careful in recording the die axes of entries in the Standard Catalogue, mention the existence of proof Maundy coins struck en medaille. Robinson in his work on Maundy money makes no mention of the matter one way or the other
