The Royal Madras Fusiliers Officers’ Mess Dinner Plate & 9th Regiment of Native Infantry (Bombay) Officers’ Mess Dessert Plate, the first 25.4 cms profusely decorated in gold and dark blue and with central device being a crowned strap ‘The Royal Madras Fusiliers’ enclosing the Royal Tiger on ground with a ribbon motto below ‘Spectamur Agendo’. The reverse with maker’s mark being a crown over ‘Davenport Longport Staffordshire’ and pattern number 688. The second 23.2 cms again richly decorated in gold, dark blue and buff, with central oval strap ‘Regiment.N.I.’ enclosing ‘9’, the reverse with pattern number R102, some gilt loss to the first item and a small rim chip to the second otherwise very fine condition £150-200
Note: The Royal Madras Fusiliers became 102nd Regiment of Foot on the British Establishment and in 1881 became the 1st Battalion the Royal Dublin Fusiliers.
