Jan Jacobsz, who was born in February 1884, served as Captain & Adjutant of the Harrismith Commando from August 1899 until July 1902; the award of his D.T.D. was announced in U.D.F. General Order No. 425 of October 1922.

Appointed a Lieutenant-Colonel in South African Native Labour Corps in November 1916, Jacobsz served in France in the period February to November 1917, gaining a mention in despatches (London Gazette 5 July 1919, refers) and the O.B.E. Among other events during his time in France, he was presented to King George V, Queen Mary and the Prince of Wales during their visit to the S.A.N.L.C. at Abbeville on 10 July 1917.

He became an Honorary Colonel of the Harrismith Commando in December 1936 and died in May 1943; sold with copied research.
