The 11-clasp Peninsula War medal awarded to Private John Whitehouse, 43rd Foot, who was wounded in the head at Badajoz and at Salamanca

Military General Service 1793-1814, 11 clasps, Vimiera, Corunna, Busaco, Fuentes D’Onor, Ciudad Rodrigo, Badajoz, Salamanca, Vittoria, Nivelle, Nive, Toulouse (John Whitehouse, 43rd Foot.) together with original parchment Certificate of Out-Pensioner at Chelsea Hospital, dated 28 January 1852, some heavy edge bruising and contact marks, three solder repairs to carriage, good fine and better £4000-5000

John Whitehouse was born at Worcester and is first shown in the musters as having joined the 2/43rd Foot at Bromsgrove on 14 March 1805. He transferred to the 1/43rd Foot in April 1809 and served with this battalion in Portugal, Spain and France. He was discharged on 5 April 1817, having served 11 years 11 months, and was granted a late Pension on 27 January 1852, in respect of ‘wounded head at Badajoz and Salamanca’.
