F. W. Northward served as a Supplementary 2nd Officer aboard the S.S. Avoca. The ship was launched in 1891 and was operated by the British India Line until 1907. It was several times sold and renamed. As the Cunard owned S.S. Feltira, she was torpedoed and sunk by a German submarine off Mine Head, Co. Waterford, on 5 May 1917.
Supernumerary Second Officer aboard SS Avoca. He died aboard SS Rewa of acute intestinal obstruction on 23 December 1902. Medal sent to widow Alice on 17 March 1904
