Edward W. Allonby was embarked for Egypt as a Corporal in the 11th (Service) Battalion, Manchester Regiment in July 1915 and subsequently saw action in Gallipoli. Landing at Suvla Bay under heavy fire from Lala Baba on 6 August, the battalion quickly distinguished itself, when on the 10th it engaged the enemy with the bayonet and drove him back in disorder over Hill 10. Allonby was discharged in February 1919.

James Rae was embarked for Gallipoli as a Sergeant in the 1/10th Battalion, Manchester Regiment on 5 May 1915, where the quickly saw action at Gully Ravine. Rae was subsequently attached to the King’s African Rifles.

Arthur Reginald Canfor originally entered the French theatre of war as a Private in the Rifle Brigade in January 1915. Subsequently commissioned 2nd Lieutenant in the 8th Battalion, East Surrey Regiment, he was killed in action near St. Quentin on 23 March 1918, on which date the German offensive proved overwhelming - ‘the Battalion fought gallantry against masses of troops whose concentrated machine-gun fire had been more intense that any yet experienced; the ground had been given up at tremendous cost to itself and the Germans.
