James Edward Parrott was born in Ulverstoke, Hampshire on 29 April 1905, the son of Herbert and Ada Parrott. A Labourer by occupation, he entered the Royal Navy as a Stoker 2nd Class in May 1923. Awarded the L.S. & G.C. when on the I-class destroyer H.M.S. Impulsive. Stoker Petty Officer Parrott was killed in action when serving on the destroyer H.M.S. Janus, 23 November 1944, aged 38 years. The destroyer was supporting the landing at Anzio when she was hit by a torpedo from a German dive bomber. She foundered in 22 minutes taking with her seven officers and 155 ratings. His name is commemorated on the Portsmouth Naval Memorial. With copied service paper and other papers including two copied photographs of Impulsive.
