Henry Harvey served with the 2nd Battalion Rifle Brigade in the Crimean War and was awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal (recommendation dated 19 February 1855), with a gratuity of £10, in addition to the Queen’s medal with three clasps and Turkish Crimea Medal. Served in the suppression of the Indian Mutiny, being present at the siege and capture of Lucknow, at the battle of Nawabgunge; at the operations on the banks of the Rumgunga and the capture of the Fort Oomana (Medal and clasp). Served with the 2nd Battalion Rifle Brigade during the second phase of the Ashanti War 1874 (Medal). Appointed Quartermaster in April 1855; Hon. Captain in November 1869 and Hon. Major, Army Pay Department, November 1874.
