INDIA GENERAL SERVICE 1854-95, 1 clasp, Burma 1889-92 (Lieutenant C.D. Sandford, 20th Madras Infantry) official correction to rank. Both medals toned, extremely fine (2)

Daniel Augustus Sandford served with his regiment throughout the Punjab Campaign of 1848-49, including the affair of Ramnagar, the passage of the Chenab, the battles of Chilianwala and Gujerat (slightly wounded), and the pursuit of the Sikhs to Peshawar, at which place he served with the corps for some time after the close of the campaign. He subsequently marched with the regiment to Lahore, arriving there in May 1849, and at that place, on the 20th of the following month, he died of a fever resulting from the hardships and privations of the campaig Ensign Sandford was the author of 'Leaves ftom the Journal of a Subaltern during the Campaign in the Punjab.'

Charles Douglas Sandford is listed as dead in Hart's Army List 1893.
