MILITARY CROSS, G.V.R., with Second Award Bar, reverse of Cross engraved (Lieut., 1st Bn, R.I. Regt., M.C. Sep 3rd 1916. Bar Sep. 21st 1918); 1914-15 STAR (2021 Pte., York. R.); BRITISH WAR AND VICTORY MEDALS (Lieut.); Russia, CROSS OF ST. GEORGE, silver breast badge nearly extremely fine (5)

M.C., London Gazette, 1 January 1917, general citation.

Bar to M.C., London Gazette, 4 October 1919 (Egypt): ‘For gallantry and initiative during operations on the 21st September, 1918, when finding the advanced guard on the left of his battalion was held up, he, with a few men, rushed the strongly-held village of Rujib and quickly cleared it of the enemy thereby enabling his battalion to make a further advance.’

Franklin George Ekins was commissioned 2/Lieutenant in the 1st Battalion Royal Irish Regiment, 19 September, 1915; Lieut, 1 July, 1917. Lieut. F.G. Ekins died on 27 January, 1919, the Regimental History listing him as killed in action.
