A scarce surgeon's medal for the Defence of the Residency at Lucknow awarded to Surgeon Major H.M. Greenhow, Oudh Irregular Cavalry

INDIAN MUTINY 1857-58, 2 clasps, Defence of Lucknow, Lucknow, this latter clasp unofficial but contemporary (Asst. Surgn. H.M. Greenhow, 1st Oudh Irreg. Cavy.) fitted with silver riband buckle, small edge bruise, otherwise good very fine

Henry Martineau Greenhow served with the Oudh Irregular Cavalry throughout the Mutinies in Oudh in 1857 and 1858. His services were mentioned, and untiring industry, extreme devotion and great skill commended, in the despatch of Brigadier Inglis, Commanding the Garrison at Lucknow. He received by name the thanks of the Government, Brevet-Surgeon and one year's service for the Defence of Lucknow.
