Military General Service 1793-1814, 9 clasps, Vimiera, Talavera, Busaco, Ciudad Rodrigo, Vittoria, Pyrenees, Nivelle, Orthes, Toulouse (W. Friday, 40th Foot) fitted with engraved silver ribbon buckle, edge bruising and contact marks, otherwise very fine £1800-2200

William Friday was born in the Parish of Shepton, Somerset, and enlisted for the 40th Foot at Steyning, Sussex, in August 1807. He was discharged on 25 September 1829, due to “Chronic Rheumatism and Physical Infirmity.” His General Conduct was noted as “Very Good”, and that he “Landed with the first part of the Army in Portugal and was not out of the Country until the war was ended. Served in N. America and at the Battle of Waterloo. He received a wound in the neck at the action at Talavera and in the back at Badajoz in 1811; also was wounded 3 different times in the left thigh at the Capture of Badajoz in 1812.”
