Five: Colour-Sergeant J. Duncan, 13th Light Infantry

Ghuznee 1839 (J. Duncan, 13th P.A.L.I.) a contemporary but unofficial striking; Defence of Jellalabad 1842, Mural Crown (13th Regt.) naming engraved in obverse field; Cabul 1842 (Cpl., XIII P.A.L.I.) naming engraved similar to the regimental style; Crimea 1854-56, 1 claps, Sebastopol (791 Col.Sergt., 13th Regt.) contemporary engraved naming; Turkish Crimea, Sardinian issue, unnamed, contact marks and polished, generally good fine or better (5) £1200-1500

Joseph Duncan was born in the Parish of St Peter’s, Hampshire, and attested for the 13th Light Infantry at Dinapore, in the East Indies, on 15 October 1828, at the age of only 10 years. He served abroad in the East Indies for 8 years 287 days, at Gibraltar for 4 years 107 days, in Turkey and the Crimea for 97 days, and in Malta for 235 days. He was discharged on 25 October 1858, with 22 years service to count, his actual service amounting to thirty years including 8 years under age as a Boy. Sold with copy service papers.
