D.C.M., London Gazette, 2 December, 1919. 'He led an attack on a machine gun position during the attack on the high ground east of Verchain on 24th October, 1918. This party successfully captured and put out of action machine guns, taking in the neighbourhood of 50 prisoners. Soon after the action commencing on the morning of the 24th, all the officers of the company becoming casualties, he reorganised the company and assumed command, taking his objective. He showed great courage and leadership throughout.
