QUEEN'S SOUTH AFRICA 1899-1902,3 clasps, Belmont, Transvaal, Wittebergen (Lieut. D.W.S.E. Abbott, R. Muns. Fus.) officially engraved naming. very fine

A scarce medal to the Royal Munster Fusiliers, especially to an officer, as only 'C' and 'D' companies were present at Belmont. Captain Duncan William Sydney Elphinstone Abbott was killed in action at Hill 70 during the battle of Loos, 26 September 1915, while serving with 10th Battalion York and Lancs. Regiment. His commanding officer wrote: 'He died leading his men bravely and wonderfully, and all the men and his brother officers feel his loss very keenly.'
