M.C., awarded for operations in Togoland, West Africa, in October 1914 (Ref History of the R.W.A.F.F., Haywood & Clarke).
O.B.E., London Gazette, 28 December, 1918, awarded for operations in East Africa.
M.I.D., London Gazette, 31 May 1916 and 6 August 1918, both for operations in East Africa.
Lieutenant Colonel Hornby died on 30 December 1918, just two days after the award of his O.B.E. He is buried in the Sekondi (Shama Road) European Cemetery, now the Takoradi European Cemetery, Ghana.
