Ernest Cornish enlisted in July 1877 and served with 'G' battery, Royal Horse Artillery, at Tel-El-Kebir. He transferred to the 19th Hussars on 1 November 1883, 'to serve with his elder brother,' Harry John Cornish. Ernest continued to serve in Egypt and was present at the battles of El-Teb on 29 February 1884, atTamaai on 13 March 1884, and at Kirbekan on 10 February 1885. He received the medal with 5 clasps and the Khedive's Star.

Harry John Cornish was Ernest's elder brother, and enlisted into the 7th Hussars on March 1881. He transferred to the 19th Hussars in July 1882 and was present at Tel-El-Kebir, El- Teb and Tamaai. He did not serve on the Nile Expedition and is not therefore entitled to the clasps for The Nile or Abu Klea. Sold with further research.
