A scarce African campaign pair to Corporal Hashima, Northern Nigeria Regiment, who was killed in action during the Sokoto-Birmi expedition in 1903

Corporal Hashima served witn No. 1 battery, N. Nigeria Regiment, West African Frontier Force. He served with the column which moved from Beckwai on 13 July 1900, to the relief of Kumassi. He earned the first clasp to his A.G.S. medal for the campaign against the Emir of Yola in August and September 1901. He took part in the Sokoto-Birmi expedition, 15 April to 27 July 1903, during which the 1st battery, N.N. Regiment, were engaged firing shrapnel from their 75mm guns at the storming of Birmi on 27 July 1903. The medal roll states that he was killed during this campaign and given that there were only 17 men killed during the entire campaign, 10 of whom died during the storming of Birmi on 27 July, it seems likely that Hashima was a casualty at this action.
