France, 1909. France. “L’Hiver et le Printemps”, a pair of uniface bronze plaquettes by Hippolyte Lefèbvre, trial strikings marked “2” and “3” respectively on the reverses, 68 x 80mm (cf. PBE 522; Coll. Marx 143). Extremely fine

Hippolyte Lefébvre, sculptor and medallist, born in 1863. Prix de Rome in 1892. Marx describes his medals as having “une ingéniosité pittoresque très vive” and reproduced several in Médailleurs Conemporains
