France, 1953. France. Cie Maritime des Chargeurs Réunis, Launching of the “Henri Poincaré” , bronze commemorative medal by Aleth Guzman, bust of Pioncaré to left, reverse paquebot, legend above and below, 50mm, in original box. Extremely fine.

Jules Henri Poincaré (1854-1912), French mathematician and astronomer, born in Nancy. His special study was the theory of functions in which he made important advances. Aleth Guzman-Nageotte (1904-1978), sculptress and medallist, a pupil of Yencesse, she won the Grand Prix de Rome for medals in 1929.
