William Robert Elphinstone Dalrymple was appointed Lieutenant in the Ayr & Wigton Militia (4th Battalion, Scots Fusiliers) on 4 November 1874, and appointed to the Reserve of Officers on 7 July 1880. He became Captain on 10 February 1881. The only medal issued to this Militia regiment and probably unique to any Militia regiment with this clasp.
