Hammer Price:
£100

1st Royal Lancashire Militia, a very fine badge with shoulder belt fastenings, 2 hooks and a stud, being similar to the mount from the shoulder belt plate c1840-55, facetted silver star with gilt and enamel mounts, mounted on a star shaped back plate, for wear on the pouch belt c1856-60, excellent condition £150-200

See Colour Plate VIII

The loss of the shoulder belt in 1855 was felt so keenly by a few Regiments of the Line as well some militias that they unofficially adopted a pouch and pouch belt in order to display a plate and pouch badge, the former was accompanied by a whistle chain and guard, however those regiments not classed as Rifles were soon ordered to remove the belt, pouch and ornaments.
