The Royal Victorian Medal, G.V.R. (Silver) unnamed as issued in its Royal Mint case of issue, with original bestowal document (No. JX.128734 Telegraphist Albert H. Mann, 18th February, 1936) together with a quantity of original documents and letters, extremely fine

Leading Telegraphist Albert Henry Mann was killed on 12 December, 1939, when the destroyer Duchess was sunk in collision with the battleship Barham in the North Channel, west coast of Scotland. Six officers, including Commander R. C. H. White, and 123 ratings were lost. One officer and 22 ratings were picked up. Telegraphist Mann was a member of the Gun Carriage Crew for the funeral of King George V on 28th January, 1936, and for his services on that occasion he received the Royal Victorian Medal.
The lot is sold with a fine photograph of the procession moving along Piccadilly, with corresponding key identifying all members of the Gun Carriage Crew; his original Certificate of Service which confirms the R.V.M., two Admiralty letters concerning his death, and a commemorative album of the King’s funeral personally inscribed to Mann from the Author.
