Crimea 1854-55, 1 clasp, Sebastopol, unnamed; Indian Mutiny 1857-58, 1 clasp, Lucknow (Lieut., R. Arty.); Legion of Honour, 5th class, 3rd Republic 1870, breast badge in silver and enamels with gold centres; Turkish Crimea, British issue, contact marks, nearly very fine or better (4)

Major William James Hall served in the Crimean campaign from January 1855, including the siege and fall of Sebastopol, in the Trenches with the siege train, and bombardments of 9th April and 6th, and 17th June (Medal with clasp, Knight of the Legion of Honour, Turkish medal). Present at the siege and capture of Lucknow in March 1858; the capture of Rampore Kussia and Amithi, and the siege of Shunkerpore in November 1858 (Medal with clasp). Appointed Assistant Quarter Master General at Woolwich in 1872, and retired on half pay 17 February 1875.
