Auction Catalogue
Victoria (1837-1901), Gothic Florin, 1866, no colon, die no. 10 (ESC. 828;SC. 150). Reverse extremely fine, obverse almost so, rare (£80-120)
Interestingly Coincraft’s SC and Coins Market Values diverge quite significantly in the quoted prices for this date: CMV quotes £20 and £75 respectively for VF and EF coins; while SC lists figures of £80 and £200 for the same grades. Significantly the ‘Willis’ coin, grouped with other Florins, was either VF or slightly better, while the coin with this date in the collection of Florins sold at Glendining’s on April 25 1986 was also described as VF, suggesting that the SC prices, although arguably rather high, nonetheless perhaps more fully reflect the rarity of the coin in a high grade than CMV.
