The Royal Victorian Medal, E.VII.R., silver; Faithful Service Medal, V.R., with extra 10 Year service bar, inscribed on the reverse (To Mr. Wm. Johnathan Blane, Second Clerk of the Kitchen, for Faithful Services to the Queen during 29 Years 1890); Jubilee 1887, clasp, 1897, silver issue; Coronation 1902, bronze issue; Prussia, Medal of the Order of the Red Eagle, silver; Norway, King’s Commemoration Medal, King Haakon VII, gold; Spain, Order of Naval Merit, 5th class breast badge in silver; Italy, Royal Service Medal, Victor Emanuele III, gold; Portugal, Coronation 1889, King Carlos I, silver; Sweden, Royal Household Medal, King Gustav V, silver-gilt; Wurttemberg, Medal of Merit, Wilhelm II, silver, the second and third with contact marks, otherwise good very fine or better and a rare group (11)

The group is sold with four original named documents, comprising: warrant of appointment to Queen Victoria’s Household as Footman, 8th March, 1866, issued by the Master of the Horses Office; and three bestowal documents relating to the awards from Italy (King’s Visit to Windsor Castle, November 1903), Wurttemberg (February 1904) and Spain (King’s Visit to London, June 1906). These generally in good condition, the first especially rare.
William Johnathan Blane was born in 1836 and entered service in 1866 as Footman; 3rd Clerk of the Kitchen, 1883 and 2nd Clerk, 1890; Principal Gentleman Porter, 1902. Mr. Blane died on 13 November, 1915, at Balmoral Villa, Windsor.
