FRANCE, Clemenceau, a bronze medal, c.1960, unsigned, head of tiger with teeth bared, reverse aircraft carrier with jet taking off from its deck, 60mm (CGMP –); together with other bronze medals relating to World War I (6), by Legastelois, Vernier, Huguenin, Prud’homme, etc. [7]. Generally very fine (£30-40)
The first medal probably relates to the launch of the aircraft carrier Clemenceau in 1961, the tiger being symbolic of Clemenceau’s nickname. For another medal of the same subject by G. Guiraud, see CGMP p.880
