William Bushell was born in the Parish of East Walton, Lynn, Norfolk, and enlisted for the York and Lancaster Regiment at Sheffield on 13 August 1891, aged 18 years 1 month. He passed classes of instruction in Big Gun Drill and Mounted Infantry during 1894, and served in Southern Rhodesia in 1896, and in South Africa 1899-1902. He was discharged, time expired, on 11 August 1903. Sold with copy photographs of the recipient, in one of which he is wearing medals.
