Germany, Germany, an interesting collection of Kriegsgeld and Notgeld from the period 1914-1923 (157), mostly in zinc, iron, steel or aluminium, plus three on card or paper, from cities and towns including Aachen, Ahlen, Bochum, Bonn, Cassel, Darmstadt, Duren, Elberfeld, Furth, Giessen, etc.; together with base metal German regal currency, 1875-1919 (46). [203]. Regal pieces fine, Kriegsgeld and Notgeld mostly very fine, housed in alphabetical order in a blue album (£100-150)

Kriegsgeld and the later Notgeld were struck by local authorities to ease the growing coin shortage in Germany, which was particularly acute between 1918 and 1923
