Sergeant Major J. Kingston was born in the Parish of Blackrock, Co. Cork, and attested on 6 October 1870. He served in South Africa with the 5th Battalion and was mentioned in Lord Kitchener’s last despatch from Cape Town, 1902. He was discharged at Bury on 4 October 1902 after 32 years service and is also entitled to the L.S. & G.C. and Meritorious Service Medal.
