M.S.M. London Gazette 22 February 1919. One of only two awards to the 4th Battalion.

John James Maguire was born in July 1888 and enlisted as a boy on 23 July 1902, 4th Battalion. On the outbreak of war he moved with the Special reserve, 4th Bn., to Barrow and later to Barry Docks. He was promoted Orderly Room Colour Sergeant in 1916, Orderly Room Quarter Master Sergeant in 1919, and Regimental Sergeant Major of the 1st Battalion in 1924. In July 1932 he was promoted Lieutenant and Quartermaster and posted to the 2nd Battalion in India where he died of acute appendicitis on 6 November of the same year.
