The lot is sold with a series of correspondence regarding the recipient’s claim to have his replacement G.S.M. named in the above manner. After a lengthy correspondence involving his M.P., the Under Secretary of State for Defence, and the Ministry of Defence, Army Medal Office, Durkin finally received his medal, originally named to the Manchester Regiment, with the naming details re-impressed to his satisfaction, the only G.S.M. to be officially named in this manner. Durkin had seen service in Malaya under Colonel Mike Calvert, C.O. of the Malayan Scouts, which subsequently became 22 Special Air Service Regiment.
