Major Rod Dearing commanded the second detachment of the NZSAS that arrived in Borneo in August 1965. They served at Kuching and with 22 SAS at Labuan, and also participated in combined operations with the Special Boat Company of the Royal Marines. After retiring from the Army, Dearing was subsequently appointed Director of the Museum of Transport and Technology in Auckland.
