M.C. London Gazette 22 July 1916. ‘T/2nd/Lieut. 10th N. Staffs Regt., attached 1st S. Lancs Regt. For conspicuous gallantry when his Captain had become a casualty he took command, and led his men forward. It was greatly due to his fine leading that an enemy position was captured.’
